BMI
Understanding BMI
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated the same way for both males and females. It is a measure of body fat based on height and weight.
BMI Categories:
- Underweight: BMI < 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5–24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25–29.9
- Obese: BMI ≥ 30
While the calculation is the same, interpretation can differ. Males typically have more muscle mass, whereas females have a higher percentage of body fat. This can influence how BMI is understood in terms of health risks.
